CH 001 : The Village

The Village

The child stares blankly into the sky. Tears flowing silently, He closes the child's eyes. Even then, the tears will not stop. How may tears be stopped when one sees slaughter wreaked upon innocent people? Everywhere he looked, he sees the evidence of an orgy of slaughter and hate.
There, an old man pinned to the wall by a spear. In the alley between two houses, he spies the legs of a woman, spread open and still in death. He sees children cut down where they stood in a group.
"Damned Humans!! What did we ever do to you but exist?"
Anger threatens to overwhelm him, yet keep it under control he must. The safety of the refugees from this village lies under his purview still. This village of wood elves was supposed to be his next stop on his patrol. Only the fleeing refugees from the slaughter warned him of what happened and made him hasten in the hopes of stopping the massacre and if possible, save anyone still alive.
Such hope came to naught.
"My Lord Forcas, we find no Humans within the vicinity. We have however, found the trail of the animals that did this..... Travesty"
"What are your orders My Lord?"
His scout leader, Raum, interrupts his reverie
Much as he would like to chase them down and subject them to his Fallen Arts, the safety of the refugees comes first.
"We return. The safety of our vassals are our main concern now. We will hunt these animals some other time. And when we do, we shall..... Indulge"
Saying that, he gives the order to move out and return to El-Glasya-Labolas, the jewel of the Empire. The Empire will surely be better equipped to assist the refugees there. It will take them a few weeks, with the village being located at the border and a distance of roughly 100-200 leagues lying between them and their object of travel.
During the travel, he was forced to think of how to phrase his report to His Excellency, The High Regent. A wrongly worded report will certainly ignite the spark of war between The Fey Empire and the world of Humans. Though He is sure The Fey Empire will come out glorious, he has a soft spot for humans.
The shortly lived humans seems like jewels to him. They lived such short lives, but oh what shining bright lives. Is it because their haste to accomplish things within their short lives that makes them shine so? He ponders this.
